It's that time again, dear readers, for the Nintendo Download Update details for North America. This week includes a retail release across Switch and Wii U, along with download-only options across all three current stores. It's a diverse mix of games, so let's get to it.
Nintendo Switch Retail Download
Cars 3: Driven to Win (Warner Bros. Interactive, $59.99) - Developed by Avalanche Studios (well known for the Disney Infinity series), this racing game includes a variety of modes and multiplayer / co-op options. It looked decent in gameplay footage, especially for young fans of the films. Available from 13th June.
Nintendo Switch eShop
Shantae: Half-Genie Hero (WayForward, $19.99USD) - The HD debut of this iconic franchise arrived on various systems including the Wii U last year, and now gets its chance to impress on the Switch. Stylish and full of flair, we enjoyed this a lot in our original Shantae: Half-Genie Hero Wii U eShop review.
Shock Troopers 2nd Squad (Hamster, $7.99USD) - An overhead run-and-gun title that shakes things up a little in comparison to the original, including the option to jump into vehicles and go through levels with increased firepower. As an ACA release this will also have extras such as screen filters, game customisation options and global leaderboards.
3DS eShop
Anime Workshop (Collavier Corporation, $7.99USD) - This app offers tools to create your own animations, also promising the ability to share those creations online.
3DS HOME Themes
Disney Tsum Tsum Princesses Edition
Wii U Retail Download
Cars 3: Driven to Win (Warner Bros. Interactive, $49.99USD) - The Wii U iteration of the game, which should be largely the same but does lack co-op features. Available from 13th June.
Wii U eShop
Cubit the Hardcore Platformer Robot HD (Coderchild, $4.99USD) - This is challenging platforming where music plays a prominent part. This title previously arrived on 3DS and was quite good, and this HD version promises alternate endings and guest characters among its selling points. Those that own the 3DS version can get a discount on the Wii U iteration meanwhile, and those that buy the Wii U version can download the portable edition for free.

Cubit the Hardcore Platformer Robot HD (Coderchild, free)
Wii U Virtual Console
Neutopia II (Konami, $5.99USD) - A TurboGrafx-16 RPG followed the storyline of its predecessor, with gameplay familiar to fans of Nintendo's early Legend of Zelda games. We gave this a recommendation in our short and snappy Wii Virtual Console review nearly a decade ago.
Alien Crush (Konami, $5.99USD) - This TurboGrafx-16 game offers something a little different from the old system, as it's a pinball game with a sci-fi theme; we liked it in our review way back in 2006.
As always Nintendo of America wants you to browse the eShop and check out the official sales and deals website for discount details.
A number of options to consider in this week's update - let us know what you'll be downloading in the poll and comments below.

Yup, Shantae for me.
If Alien Crush comes to Europe I might get it. If you've played Shantae: Half-Genie Hero already then there's not a lot here. Cars I doubt is very good even if it is a new Wii U game. Might download the Cubit demo too.
Also, looking at the eEuropean Shop, though the PR isn't out yet, Never Alone has gotten a massive discount, down from €15 to €3.
Cars 3: Driven to Win Space in the Bargain Bin.
Nothing this week as I'm saving money for after E3 for a VC release hopefully but Shock Troopers 2 might change my mind as I got the first one and enjoy it.
only getting the home theme
If Cubit has a discount I will get it since I have the original. Still don't dig the name.
What happened to GoNNER?
I didnt participate in the poll because I will be downloading GoNNER for the switch today which they were negligent to even list...
Shock Troopers for now. Waiting to see if there will be a physical release of Shantae
Shantae for me.
I can't imagine anyone buying that Cars game at full price. Although I believe this is the last Wii U physical release games on the horizon?
I already bought Shantae for Wii U and really dont want to buy it again especially if im not getting the DLC free for EITHER unlike the donators. I want to double dip but I just can't especially not in the state of income I am in :/
GoNNER is not releasing today. That is why it is not listed.
Nothing no this week which is fine since don't need to compulsively buy games to put on my back log.
Is this Shantae dings worth it?
Holy Crap! The Wii U is still getting VC? Hey, Nintendo! Think you could release the Castlevania DS games around Halloween?
Will there be a review for cars? I know it is a licensed game but it is another racing game when when have so few right now.
I think I'm getting shantae digital this time.
I'm way more excited about these small, ported games I never played than I am for the major releases like Spla2oon and ARMS. I will be getting Shantae today and look forward to Oceanhorn in a couple weeks.
@setezerocinco: Half-Genie Hero is worth every penny, IMHO.
If I wasn't committed to ARMS and a second set of joycons, I'd probably get Cars 3, as Race-O-Rama (Wii) was a lot of fun. Maybe pick up second hand later.....
I loved Dragons Fury on the Megadrive, which was the sequel to Alien Crush.I had it on Wii VC too but I can't remember if it was the MD version or the Turbografix version which was called Devils Crush.I'm sure it was the latter actually.
The more I think about it,I might even have Alien Crush on there too.
I was SO looking forward to GoNNER coming out today! What a massive letdown that it's now TBA!
Man, I was hoping for something cool on my birthday today.
@Zach777 True, but they've listed games on these articles before that were a full 4 or 5 days out. Sounds like they just forgot about Gonner.
The Devs of Gonner stated there was going to be a delay. No new release date as of now.
@Voodoo Gonner has been delayed and now doesn't have a release date. They announced it on Twitter yesterday.
I'd be interested in that Neutopia 2 if it was coming to switch as well, hope we get VC soonish. I also hope for a change there is more titles available from the start I've always hated the trickle they do of VC.

Really?
Looks like you guys missed Gonner..
Shantae, because I just recently got into the series and haven't played Half-Genie Hero yet
Definitely downloading Shantae. I obtained the platinum trophy for it when it was released on the PS4 and will gladly double dip to help support the Shantae series and WayForward.
@ShamusErhin26 it got delayed.
@Voodoo The devs say it got delayed though.
I haven't played a Shantae since the days of DSiWare. I'm definitely getting this one.
Nothing for me this week, which is good since I can save my eshop credits for Arms next week.
Half Genie Hero is ok. Worth playing if you're a Shanatae fan. Otherwise it's kinda meh. Hoping ARMS gets a lot of love later on. Start saving money?
What the hell! WiiU still gets VC but they can't be bothered (or they are just a bunch lazy "somethings I can't say here"). It takes no extra time to put a rom on 3ds over WiiU.
@Voodoo
For real.

Nintendo screws up all time on their eShop site. Believe it. "Available now".... Bah... nonsense. Says Shantae is "Available Now" and that just isn't the case for a couple more hours.
I'll be waiting for physical Shantae release at the end of the year.
Getting nada as the 3DS release this week is totally barebones.
All these TG-16 games now on Wii U VC......here's to hoping that one of these weeks Nintendo will put Ys Book I & II up there!
I wish they had let me wait and get my Kickstarter reward on Switch instead of WiiU, but oh well, it's a great game, I'll double dip to finally finish it on Switch!
nothin
Good to see some TG-16 love... on the Wii U no less. Never played Neutopia, but maybe now is the time.
Might have to give Shantae a try, since I skipped the Wii U version of this game. I haven't actually played Shantae since the Game Boy Color original.
I'll get Shantae and keep my physical Wii U copy sealed
Played the original GBC Shantae game years and years ago, and didn't get but half way through. Got Pirates Curse for the 3DS and ate up every single bit of it. A platformer on the Switch would be a welcome addition to my measly little collection.
Sorry comic books! Looks like my recreational budget is going towards the Switch again.
I'll be downloading Shantae when I get home from work today. Can't wait!
I would have picked up the last few TG16/PCE games, but I'd really rather get them on Switch than Wii U at this point.
Not a bad week. Shantae for me! Wait maybe I should sit tight for retail copy... 🤔🤔
Ooo, those are some GREAT Wii U VC titles
Never Alone (Kisima Ingitchuna) is only $2.99 on the Wii U.
All aboard poop toot.
Neutopia II for me, hopefully we'll get Devil's Crush next time
@MrPuzzlez Since it appears to be someone other than Nintendo responsible for releasing them (not using the standard Nintendo settings menu), I would imagine they will keep coming. I wouldn't hold my breath for anything but TG-16/PC-Engine at this point.
That said, I probably will pick up another TG-16 game this week. It will either be the new one or I might go back and grab bomberman. I've enjoyed being able to have a quick 3 player retro game session with my two older kids.
Think the next Nintendo game I get will be Ever Oasis later this month.
Shantae for me!
Turbografx!!! yeahh! Instant download (with my discount because I have wii version).
I hope soon Rondo of Blood or maybe new ones (we got Gradius and it didn´t appear in Wii).
Nothing for me. I'm saving my Rupees for next week in case Nintendo decides to have an E3 sale of some sort.
I love the TG-16 virtual console! Keep them coming!
@bezerker99 I think Konami puts the TG-16 games out.Maybe contact them to show them your support for those games?
@NandN3ds Good call. I'll hit them on tha twittah~
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I've heard a lot of praise for Never Alone and I fell for it, the truth is that it's a mediocre glitchy mess of a puzzle platformer with a nice atmosphere and it provides a good insight into the inuit culture
@SonOfVon I've heard the same but for €3 I still might take the chance.
@antster1983 I was eagerly anticipating GoNNOR and was seriously bummed out to find they had pushed the release date back to TBC yesterday.
@MajinCubyan There is always E3 next week. But as a platformer Shantae Half Genie Hero is an amazing game.
@Nico07 oh yeah, its pretty awesome. Got it for Wii U. Might get it on switch at some point.
nothing for me this week.
...nothingforme...but I almost forgot to get the free BLASTER MASTER ZERO DLC!
"EX Character: Ekoro (from Gal*Gun) – June 1st (free until June 14th): you can use her Desert Angle guns and various other angelic weapons to show those pesky mutants that the power of love is stronger than anything" <3
PINK DOT BLUE DOT IS 99 CENTS!!!!
Just leaving my future-self a little note here:
I told you so. I told you to buy Cars 3 for Wii U before it became a triple digit collectors item. "Oh, it's just Cars tho, who cares?" "It's a physical retail WiiU game released late in June of 2017?!" "It doesn't even have the same basic co-op features the other console versions have!!?" "IT'S FULL PRICE!!??!!?"
Yep. I told you so.
@Ogre
I'd say Darksiders more than Cars. It's hard for people to care about games that aren't that good.
Speaking of, Darksiders 2 as well. That thing sold out quick, and never got reprinted.
I have a feeling Nintendo is saving some "Available on the eshop after the presentation" bombs for next Tuesday. ; )
@JaxonH
Normally I would agree but there are ALREADY several WiiU games proving this untrue. And yes! Darksiders is a VERY good call as well!...All of this I will be kicking myself over in about a year.
Shantae: Half-Genie Hero. Loved it on PS4, now I'll have it to play on the tv or in portable mode.
