Will it scoop the prize?

Real-time strategy game Amoebattle is evolving onto DSiWare later this year, and it's already lined up in a high-profile indie games showcase this month.

The Develop Expo's Indie Showcase highlights the best independent studios in the world, with Intrinsic Games featuring alongside nine other teams. Amoebattle is also the only game developed for a Nintendo platform to be shortlisted. Develop Expo attendees will be able to try out the game before a panel of judges votes for which is the best title on offer.

There's still time to submit your Amoebattle questions for Intrinsic Games if there's something you want to know about this promising-looking strategy game.

7 July: The Develop Conference today announced the ten games shortlisted to be on display within the Indie Showcase running from 20–21 July in the Develop Expo.

“The response to the Indie Showcase has been amazing. The standard of the games submitted has been exceptional and are a real testament to the innovation and creativity of indie developers,” commented Adam Green of Assyria Games and chair of the judging panel. “Needless to say, it was a very difficult decision for both myself and the rest of the judges to narrow the list down to these final ten; if only we could feature them all! However I'm very excited to see what other developers and publishers think of these games when they have a chance to play them at Develop in a couple of weeks."

Delegates to the conference will be able to play all ten games on 20 and 21 July in the Indie Showcase area situated within the Expo. The winning game as chosen by the judges will be announced at 1.30pm on Thursday 21 July.

There will also be the chance for all attendees to vote for their favourite Showcase game in the People’s Choice Award – voting slips to be provided and awards presented to the winning developer in a ceremony closing the conference at 5pm on the Thursday.

The Indie Showcase shortlisted games are:

The Dream Machine by Cockroach - a point & click adventure game on PC with characters and props made out of materials like clay and cardboard. You play as a couple who've just moved into a new apartment and discover that all is not as it seems.

Kairo by Locked Door Puzzle - an atmospheric 3D exploration and puzzle solving game on PC. Enter this lost world and slowly uncover the true purpose of Kairo and fulfil a great destiny.

Skulls of the Shogun by Haunted Temple Studios - this arcade strategy game on PC is an invigorating cocktail of 1960's flavoured sorcery, arcade button mashing pace and turn based strategy.
